Summaries of key transportation planning and research projects conducted by R. H. Bohannan & Associates are provided below:
City of Apache Junction Transit Feasibility Study Update
Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. was retained by the City of Apache Junction under the Arizona Department of Transportation's Planning Assistance to Rural Areas (PARA) program to conduct a comprehensive transportation study. The Transit Feasibility Study Update constituted the Transit Element of the Study. As a subconsultant to Jacobs, R. H. Bohannan & Associates assisted in the conduct of the Transit Feasibility Study Update. Rob Bohannan was lead transit planner for the study. Rob assisted with an analysis and documentation of current conditions and a forecast of future conditions as these related to transit provision. Rob developed transit ridership estimates using two methodologies for each of three area population thresholds: 60,000, 75,000, and 130,000. Draft local transit system scenarios were developed for each population threshold.
Kayenta Transportation Study Transit Element
EPS Group, Inc., was retained under ADOT's PARA program to conduct a transportation study for the community of Kayenta located within the Navajo Nation in Northeastern Arizona. As a subconsultant to EPS, R. H. Bohannan & Associates was tasked with preparing the transit element of the study. Rob Bohannan developed future estimates of transit demand within Kayenta and drafted a concept for a loop circulator transit route.
San Carlos Apache Tribe
As a subconsultant to Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., R. H. Bohannan & Associates assisted in the conduct of the San Carlos Apache Tribe Transit Study. Rob Bohannan was the lead transit planner for the study. Rob assisted with an analysis and documentation of current conditions, a forecast of future conditions related to the augmentation of the Tribe's transit system, and draft recommendations. In Phase II of the study, Rob developed an Operations Implementation Plan including a Maintenance Plan, a Safety Plan, and a Marketing Plan for the system.
ADOT MPO/COG Process Manual Freight and Rail Chapter
As a subconsultant to Wilson and Company, R. H. Bohannan & Associates drafted a Freight and Rail chapter of an MPO/COG Process Manual being develoepd for the Arizona Department of Transportation by Wilson. Rob Bohannan summarized the activities of truck, rail, and air freight service providers operating to, from, and within Arizona. Rob also summarized previous studies and plans that address freight service, and explained the importance of including the provision for freight infrastructure in future transportation planning to be conducted by Arizona's metropolitan planning organizations and councils of government.
Specific Service (Logo) Sign Research Studies
R. H. Bohannan & Associates was retained by Grand Canyon State Logo Signs, a division of the Arizona Department of Transportation, to conduct a series of research studies relating to the expansion of Arizona's existing rural logo sign program into urban areas. Rob Bohannan and RHBA staff reviewed and documented the practices of other states with urban logo sign programs, and conducted a census of candidate businesses near traffic interchange and highway intersection locations where future logo signs may be placed.
ADOT MVD Office Business Census Project
R. H. Bohannan & Associates was retained during 2015 by the Arizona Department of Transportation's Innovation Group, to conduct a census of candidate businesses near selected Motor Vehicle Division offices statewide.
Examples of Projects Conducted at Lima & Associates
Prior to the establishment of RHBA, Rob Bohannan was a senior planner and project manager at Lima & Associates, Inc., a transportation planning firm in Phoenix. Examples of projects Rob managed at Lima include the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Ridership Demand Study, transit studies for the City of Casa Grande, and the City of Eloy Small Area Transportation Study. Rob was also Lima team leader for the State of Arizona Railroad Inventory and Assessment Study, of which R. L. Banks and Associates was the prime consultant.
